Dr. Richard St. Louis emulates the traits he saw in his father and continues to provide the finest eye care possible to each patient. He says, “I still see a few of those folks who saw my dad back in 1951, and that is a real treat for me.”
Dr. Richard St. Louis witnessed the care his father provided and after a slight detour, knew Optometry was to be his profession. He grew up in Waterford and attended Our Lady of the Lakes Schools. After graduation from high school, he attended the University of Michigan where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics. The following fall term he began Optometry School at Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.
After his first year of Optometry school, he married his college sweetheart, Patricia Chill. She moved back with him to Chicago and supported them by working as a nurse at the Michael Reese Hospital, while he continued his optometric education. He graduated in 1976 and returned to Waterford, where he joined his father in Optometric practice.
His special interests are in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular disease conditions. He continues to speak at numerous continuing education meetings for Optometrists about laser vision correction and for Johnson & Johnson about their contact lens products.
He is an advocate of Lasik for qualified patients, including himself, and has managed pre- and post-operative care for hundreds of Lasik patients in the Waterford office.
He and his wife have three adult children, two daughters in law, and three grandchildren! Their son Matt is an attorney in Indianapolis. Another son, Paul, is a sales engineer and he and his wife live in West Bloomfield.
Dr. St. Louis is very proud that his daughter Dr. Anne St. Louis joined the practice in 2013.
“I am most confident she will continue on the same path that my father began, by continuing to provide our patients the finest care possible,” he says.
